Bathroom Renovation Cost and What to Expect in the GTA

March 27, 2026 · 7 min read

Bathrooms are among the most rewarding rooms to renovate and among the trickiest to budget, because a small space can hide a lot of complexity. Understanding what drives the cost helps you plan realistically.

A powder room refresh sits at the low end, while a full primary ensuite with a custom shower, double vanity, and premium tile sits much higher. The size of the room matters less than what you're changing: fixtures, layout, and waterproofing drive the number more than square footage.

The work you can't see is where quality is won or lost. Proper waterproofing behind tile, correct slope in a shower, and adequate ventilation prevent the moisture problems that ruin bathrooms within a few years. Cutting corners here is the most expensive kind of saving.

Moving plumbing is the biggest swing factor. Keeping the toilet, sink, and shower roughly where they are keeps costs down, while relocating them for a better layout adds labour and, often, permits. Heated floors, niche lighting, and frameless glass are worthwhile upgrades but should be planned into the budget from the start.

The best bathroom renovations spend on durability and function first, then on the finishes you touch every day. If you're planning a bathroom, we're glad to give you an honest estimate and flag where your budget will have the most impact.
